FORT LEE

Established in 1904.  Fort Lee is home to the busiest bridge in the world, the George Washington Bridge, connecting New Jersey with New York over the Hudson River, with the upper level opening to traffic on October 25, 1931 with 12 lanes and the lower level on August 29, 1962 with 10 lanes.  Average monthly traffic brings 10-12 million vehicles through the bridge, mostly cars, some buses and trucks.  Fort Lee is the birthplace of American Film Industry and has a rich Revolutionary War history.  New and upcoming luxury residential and office buildings provide residence to more than 37 thousand people.  Community events and services keep families busy, including the community garden, dog park, outdoor ice skating rink, farmers’ market, arts & music festival, holiday tree lightings, Shakespeare in the Park performances and movie nights under the stars & music series in the summer.  Fort Lee is adding a new parking garage, public parks and other initiatives, visibly changing the face of its downtown.  Famous landmarks include the Monument Park, Fort Lee Historic Park, Palisades Interstate Park and Fort Lee Museum.
